Today May 5, 2020 is #GivingTuesdayNOW a global a global day of unity and giving taking place in response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID19 pandemic. Love for Lily needs your support.
No one should have to do this alone… Just like every day before we knew the word COVID-19, families found themselves in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with their newborn baby for a myriad of reasons: born too early, fighting chronic disease, genetic mutations to name a few. As our world is navigating the uncharted waters of the COVID19 pandemic these babies, their families, and the medical teams that are working keeping them thriving need our support.
At Love for Lily we stand for these families, nurses and doctors, the social workers and physical therapists that are braving this storm to support the tiniest among us.
The average NICU stay is 46 days. The three most commonly reported feelings during this time are isolation, confusion, and fear. Today these feelings are amplified as not only is the NICU experience already a roller coaster ride of emotions, but quarantine efforts have left many families having to make even harder choices. For instance, only one parent allowed in the unit at a time and no other family or support or wearing a mask at all times to limit possible exposure. In some units when a parent leaves the NICU they have to wait 24 hours before returning again… many can’t even leave the unit to get food.
During this time, we’ve taken our family support services virtual, with multiple weekly Zoom Calls, Google Meets, One-on-One Coaching Calls, text support, and secure private chat groups. Parents share that this has been a huge support to the rollercoaster of emotions and decisions they must make during this time.
Additionally, we are supporting the supporters, hosting virtual group meetings, creating helpful resources, as well as offering One-on-One coaching for the incredible NICU teams that are showing up to keep these babies healthy and thriving.
A global pandemic won’t stop us…
April 1st we launched services at Boulder Community Hospital as scheduled with the support of the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation. This launch looked a little different than expected and brings the work of so many to fruition. We are over the moon to now be offering support to mamas right here in Boulder.
Our NICU support is needed in every hospital!
In the last 6 weeks, we’ve launched LFL support services virtually to 3 additional hospitals in the Boulder-Denver area, including Children’s Hospital Colorado Springs, St. Joe’s in Denver and Lutheran in Arvada.
We can only continue this work with your support. EVERY dollar makes a difference in our ability to keep serving.
Typically, our annual fundraising event, Boots & Bling, funds 80% of Love for Lily’s operating budget. In order to do our part keeping our community safe, we have canceled this in-person fundraiser.
Your donation will allow us to continue providing these essential services to the courageous families of the NICU and the Essential Medical Team keeping the tiniest among us alive.
xoxo Sahra
